Ian and Jane are the creative team behind
Original Lizard and The Bus Shelter
Original Lizard?
Way back in 1993 we started out by making lightweight jackets from old military parachutes and needed a name for our new venture. Lightweight jackets made from slippery green fabric sounded quite reptilian and we thought that a lizard would make a good logo. A chance remark came from one of our first customers who said they were honoured to have an original Lizard product and hey presto, ORIGINAL LIZARD was born!
So where do the hats come into it?
As a skydiver, Ian would spend lots of time on windswept airfields and was asked to make some warm headgear for fellow jumpers. A lot of R&D into fleece and hat designs led us to choosing Polartec 200, an American fleece which is ideally suited for the job. Twenty five years later and the hats are still being made and used worldwide
What's The Bus Shelter?
Selling and delivering our fleece products, we travelled around the UK in our trusty old Volkswagen campervan. For a particular trip to Cornwall in 2002, we hastily put together a lightweight canopy in our workshop that could be attached to the vehicle when parked up in the sunshine/rain. It was so well received by other V-Dubbers on the trip that we decided to perfect the awning design and venture in to the motorhome industry. The name 'Bus Shelter' was conceived whilst sampling some delicious west country scrumpy during the road trip (no drink-driving was involved).
